    Glaucopsyche lygdamus, the silvery blue, is a small blue butterfly native to North America. It kills prey by holding the victim in its bill and slamming it repeatedly against the ground.

    Brassica nigra (black mustard) is an annual, non-native weedy plant that has naturalized in southern California.     The red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey, one of three species colloquially known in the United States as the "chickenhawk," though it rarely preys on standard sized chickens. Spotty here for the moment. We rode on a Wednesday morning and were surprised by the number of other bike and trike riders on the trail. The fragrant leaves and stems give chaparral its characteristic fragrance. The eyes are white.

    Artemisia californica, also known as California sagebrush, of the Asteraceae family, is a shrub that grows in coastal sage scrub, coastal strand, chaparral, and dry foothill communities, from sea level to 800 m (2600 ft.). The northern trailhead can be accessed from the San Gabriel River Parkway in Pico Rivera. Recommended. friendly nice guy but ladies be cautious. When you underpass the Pacific Coast Highway, look right. The scenery is better than the lower trail. It is a rare vagrant to Europe, with records from Spain, the Azores, England and the Netherlands.     Quercus agrifolia, the coast live oak, is an evergreen oak (highly variable and often shrubby), native to the California Floristic Province. It features a.     Ceanothus is a genus of about 50–60 species of shrubs or small trees in the family Rhamnaceae. Is there anything that can be done to improve this bicycle crossing? No restrooms at the trailhead.     Crotalus viridis (Common names: prairie rattlesnake, western rattlesnake, plains rattlesnake, and others) is a venomous pit viper species native to the western United States, southwestern Canada, and northern Mexico. Western rattlesnakes live on the land, but it can sometimes climb in trees or bushes. It's a pavedtrail for biking and hiking. Even venomous serpents, including small rattlesnakes, are readily consumed. An eventual connection to the Whittier Greenway Trail will provide additional recreational and transportation options for residents of that city.

It follows a paved utility access road from the trailhead on Highway 39 to a point downstream of Cogswell Dam.     The green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus) is a species of freshwater fish in the sunfish family (Centrarchidae) of order Perciformes. The San Gabriel River Bike Trail is a 38-mile trail stretching from the base of the San Gabriel Mountains all the way to Seal Beach.
